The Bride and Groom

JUSTIN

Justin at Bacardi
Born in the suburbs of Ventura County, Justin spent the first eighteen years of his life trying to figure out a way to get out of his hometown. During his teenage years, he enjoyed playing with computers and eventually began creating websites for fun. Taking advice from his brother, he took his first steps towards a career technology and enrolled at UC Santa Barbara, where he then graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. After finishing school and starting his professional career, he made traveling one of his favorite hobbies and always found a way to take a trip … if he could land himself a great deal that is. After a while, he moved to Los Angeles, CA, where he was able to experience the culture and nightlife of the big city. On a Saturday night, you can find him enjoying a nice coffee with friends or eating Chinese food with his family.

IRENE

Irene Hanging out at Tree Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Irene spent the first sixteen years of her life enjoying the beautiful island with her family and friends. Even at a young age, Irene was an avid traveler. At age three, she took her first plane ride to Hong Kong and hasn’t stopped traveling since then. In 1999, Irene and her family made the long (and permanent) move from Taipei, Taiwan to the small suburban city of Arcadia, California. While there, she attended Arcadia High School and left her own mark on the school. She joined the Apache Marching Band and using her musical expertise and her prowess with peripheral vision and guiding, helped them become the 2001 Junior Varsity Champions in Las Vegas. It was also at Arcadia High School that she met some of her closest friends, who she still keeps in touch with today. In her free time, she enjoys eating all-you-can-eat BBQ and drinking boba tea. Although she loves United States, she greatly misses her grandma in Taipei, who taught her many lessons in life that made her a better person.

HOW THE STORY BEGINS...

In the wintertime of 2011 they crossed paths in Big Bear, CA. Not knowing each other at the time but being in the same activity club they were introduced to each other during breakfast time. Justin half-awake and hungry was handed a delicious marinated tea egg from Irene. He was quite happy to eat it leading him to start conversation with Irene. Then he found out that Irene and her best friend Angie did not have a car so he was happy to offer them transportation to Snow Summit. Justin and Irene ended up skipping snowboarding and went sight-seeing around Big Bear Lake. They would not see each other again unti the summertime and re-connect on an official date at Din Tai Fung Dumpling House. Since then, they have enjoyed many travels together like overcoming the high-altitude sickness in Peru, getting lost in the small island of Viaques, and almost missing their flights back to Los Angeles. Being together for two and a half years as friends, partners, and travel campanions, they are now ready to take the next episode in their journey and share the rest of their lives together.

Sharing a Delicious Egg Together

THE ENGAGEMENT

Early in December 2013, Justin and Irene took a well-deserved vacation to San Juan, Puerto Rico. They visited many popular destinations and took many lovely pictures. It was at the El Yunque Rainforest when they came across a tower that provided an excellent 360 degree panoramic view of the rainforest. Towards the end of their vacation, they ended up going to Old San Juan, where they came across a fort known as the Guardians of the Caribbean. Justin asked Irene to take a panoramic picture of the cliffs overlooking the ocean. Irene proceeded to use her cell phone camera to get the fort and the city. But as she panned towards the ocean, she found Justin with a very pretty engagement ring in his hands. It then became clear to Irene that the moment she was waiting for had come as Justin went down on one knee and popped the question. She said yes, and as you know, the rest is history...
